Cigar City Brewing - Imperial Sweet Stout

8.0% ABV

"Cigar City Brewing was founded with two goals in mind. The first to make the world's best beer and the second to share with people near and far the fascinating culture and heritage of the Cigar City of Tampa. From its past as the world's largest cigar producer to its Latin roots and the many other diverse peoples that call it home, Tampa draws on many sources to develop its unique culture. At CCB we are fascinated by Tampa's history and suspect you will be too."

The Pour

Thick black, opaque with the viscosity of motor oil. Pours from a 32 once growler with 1/2 finger of a caramel coloured head. Fine, small bubbles that dissipated quickly. Some alcohol legs.

Right away you get some delicious roasty malts, vanilla, dark and milk chocolate. Also present are some coffee, mocha notes and slight candied sugars. Just a delightful smelling beer!

Wow! Silky smooth in the mouth. There are some beautifully balanced vanilla and chocolate flavours dominating the middle and back of the tongue. A very pleasant mocha, sweet taste. The booze is very well masked. You wouldn't know that this is 8% alcohol by volume.

Overall Impression

This is probably the best stout that I have ever tasted. An incredible A+. This is up there with your KBS's and Yeti's for overall perfection in balance and taste. This is just an incredibly smooth, delicious stout, that if it weren't for it being a small batch available only from the brewery, I would be in big trouble. This beer makes me want to go back to Tampa in the very near future. Wow! Just incredible. If you are in Florida, I highly recommend taking the trip to Tampa to check these guys out. You will not be disappointed.
