Okanagan Spring Brewery - 1516

1516 (Bavarian Lager)
"Our Bavarian Lager is Craft-Brewed to celebrate the landmark 1516 Purity Law. The decree states that only four ingredients can be used when making beer: barley, hops, yeast and water. The result is a lager with a crisp finish and a rich golden colour."

the Look: nice clear pour, crisp bright yellow, seems to call out "drink me on a patio!"

the Smell: there were light floral hints, and a familiar smell, the lager yeast, pulls through.

the Taste: my first thought was "familiar", reminded me of some mass produced lagers available, but this tasted like version 2.0, much fuller in body. I will admit I expected a little spicy Bavarian notes, but the flavour it brought lingered appropriately.

the Feel: this beer felt nice in your mouth, covered my tongue well, not so light you don't notice and not so heavy it felt overdone.

Overall: this is a nice summer lager, a vast improvement over whats available on most taps and a step up for those people trying to diversify their palette. I'd rank it a solid "B" and suggest pub grub and sitting under a patio umbrella to fully enjoy. Okanagan's website is also well done, take a look here.

well...not many places in Ontario...the Pale Ale is available in the LCBO, however, the 1516 is only available around here on tap at the Morrissey House

I agree, this is a great beer! We drink it all the time! (Though we're in Ab and it is a little easier to come by)

This is my fav on tap right now. You simply can't go wrong with it!
