6% ABV
The Pour
This stout pours midnight black with one inch course head. The mocha coloured head falls away to lacing quickly.
The Aroma
The aroma is quite pronounced with heavy coffee, smoke and some mild licorice notes.
The Taste
The taste was very heavy on the toasted malt and slightly sweet. The finish was very complex with notes of molasses, dark chocolate, licorice and finishes with a nice coffee note. A little alcohol is present due to the 6% ABV but not over done.
Overall impressions
Stouts are my favourite and this one is a great representation of an American stout. This is a very complex stout with many layers. If you are looking to take your next step beyond Guinness this would be a nice start. I would rate this stout a 9 out of 10.
