"Hoss is based on the Marzen lagers of Germany. Rich, layered malt notes, with hints of cherry and dark fruits, dominate, while the unique addition of rye imparts a slightly earthy, spicy character. Hoss finishes crisp and dry, and its brilliant red-orange color is a toast to the sunsets that make the perfect backdrop for this beer."
The Pour
This lager pours a deep reddish orange with a thin head. The head is gone in minutes without a trace of any lacing, perfectly still.
The Aroma
The aroma is very sweet and malty with a noticeable rye and hop scent.
Taste
The taste has a nice spicy malty beginning with a noticeable rye and yeast aftertaste. The mouth feel is thick and full with a very fine carbonation.
Overall impressions
This was a great lager from one of my favorite breweries. This is very easy to drink even at 6.2% ABV. This lager is also something to consider if you are a rye drinker, you will be happy you did.
Next time you are in the U.S. pick some up.
