Thirsty Dog Brewing Company - Siberian Night

9.7 ABV

"Siberian Night Russian Imperial Stout - Very popular and successful entry from the highly regarded, Independence-based Thirsty Dog Brewing Co. Gold Medal winner at this year's Great American Beer Festival in Denver - one of two Thirsty Dog brews to capture a medal and one of only four beers from Ohio brewers to take home hardware this year.

Why hoist one: Is this the best stout brewed in the United States? The long list of medals and honors - as well as enthusiastic word-of-mouth - certainly make that case. Creamy, black brew with a light brown head gives way to intense, smoky flavors that suggest chocolate and coffee. Extraordinarily smooth for its 9 percent alcohol content."

The Pour

Pours a thick midnight black with a quarter inch mocha coloured head. Very little head retention and some nice lacing left behind.

The Aroma

The aroma is heavy with roasted malts and coffee. Also some sweet candy notes as well.

The Taste

The taste is sweet with a good dose of coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malt. It has a full body with a creamy mouth feel and nice bitter chocolate finish.

Overall Impressions

My overall impression of this beer is why aren't they charging more money for it? This is exactly what an imperial stout should taste like. Its big, well balanced and full flavoured. This is a stout that keeps up with "big dogs". Look out Founders we have a competitor! I would rate the a 9.5 out of 10

I never had the chance to taste it, but it sounds good in your review.

Very good beer! A must if you are a stout lover.
