Garrison Brewing Announces Beer Style for 2012 Ultimate Brew-off Challenge

Halifax, NS

Once again this winter, Garrison will host the Ultimate Brew-off Homebrew Challenge, a contest designed to showcase the talents of Maritime homebrewers. This is Garrison’s 4th annual Ultimate Brew-Off in conjunction with Noble Grape, and it's the only annual Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) event in the Maritimes.

This year’s style to brew is really an American hybrid of two styles. Rye IPA is a bold and hoppy take on a medium-bodied ale brewed with rye malt. Beyond rye, the use of other malts, cereals and the choice in hops is entirely up to the brewer. The top four entries will receive prizes, while the winner will work with Garrison's brewmaster, Daniel Girard, to produce a full batch of their recipe for a special release in bottles!

The winning Brew-Off entry in 2011 was submitted by Adam Comeau and Eric Oliver. Their Schwarzbier (Black Beer) will be released at the gala in March 2012 and be available for purchase at the brewery and select private stores. For updates, visit
