Microbrasserie Charlevoix - La Vache Folle Imperial Milk Stout

9% ABV

"Our Vache Folle Imperial Milk Stout offers intense aromas of roasted malts, mildly bitter chocolate and burnt caramel, while its lactose brings just enough body to it to balance all flavours. The dark brew is meant to be discovered slowly, lying down on your favourite couch with squares of dark chocolate or by its glorious lonesome."

The Pour

Poured from a 500mL bottle and cellar temperature, this Imperial Milk Stout is black as night. Opaque like spent motor oil. Two full fingers of mocha head. Slowly dissipating to soft peaks.

Hints of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, dark fruits and raisin. Very complex aroma. Slight hints of a booziness and malty sweetness. Wonderful smelling Imperial Stout.

A wonderful smack of coffee right away. This quickly mellows to a bitter chocolate. Roasty goodness present and very well balanced. An incredible silky smoothness. Just an incredible velvety mouthfeel.

Overall Impression

The "Mad Cow" Imperial Milk Stout is a formidable beer for sure! Incredibly smooth and so silky rich and delicious. What a fantastic example of an Imperial Stout. As one would expect from La Belle Province, coffee and chocolaty to the finish. Big, bold, wonderfully balanced and delightful. They sure know what they are doing in Quebec. If you haven't had this, be sure to try to find it. I would give it an A+.

I sooo want to try this one!

Totally love this beer... I have ONE last bottle from 2009.. Very curious to see what has happened.

Just had this beer in Quebec City while on vacation and it was the best imperial stout i have ever had!!
