"A full flavoured, complex stout combining roasted barley and chocolate malts aged on toasted french oak chips to create a rich, textured beer with a finish so stiff you'll never forget it!"
Tech Specs and Random Info
Ingredients: Water, malt, hops, yeast, french oak chips removed during fermentation
Malts: Canadian 2 Row Pale Malt, Flaked Barley, Roast Barley
Hops: Willamette
First batch: February 2012
The Pour
Gloriously dark in colour. A generous one and a half fingers of mocha head form at the top. This looks elegantly rich and velvety smooth.
Aroma
Wonderful hints of coffee, espresso and subtle amounts of chocolate. Extremely roasty. The aromas of toffee and slightly burnt caramel come through. Very nice indeed.
Taste
Very coffee forward. The roasted barley and chocolate malts are definitely the stars of this beer. As each sip finishes, it mellows and the velvety toffee notes come through. Hints of vanilla are imparted by the oak to round out this melange of flavours. There is a nice gentle carbonation that keeps with the silky mouthfeel.
Overall Impressions
Surprisingly big on flavour, when this is a little lighter in ABV than an Imperial Stout would be. The gentle carbonation makes it an especially nice treat on a cold spring night. The "Brewmaster Series" does not disappoint. This would be wonderful on tap poured and pushed through a creaming plate on nitro. A boy can dream...Definitely an "A".
