The Pour
Pours thick and black with a nice frothy 1 finger head that looks like it could get higher with a better pour; nevertheless the head has that nice bluish/purple RIS colouring which is encouraging.  There's lots of carb fizz which is surprising.

Tones of red licorice, Christmas cake spice, bread, roast coffee beans and molasses abound.

Medium to full bodied and creamy smooth with lots of rich roasted malt flavours up front. The sweet start is balanced nicely by a slightly sticky hop finish followed by some welcome alcohol warmth.

This is a serious RIS entry that doesn't pull its punches.  I found the prevalence of hops intriguing.  If I had to reclassify this brew I'd place it on the heavier end of the black IPA spectrum because of its hop kick and strong stout body.  A very cool take on a RIS indeed and well worth a look while it's here.  I rate it an A.
